Our Work

Our Fellows

Supporting student leadership in sustainability.

reDirect Fellowships

Each year, reDirect partners with the City of Ann Arbor’s Office of Sustainability and Innovations (OSI) to offer summer fellowship opportunities for University of Michigan students.

With guidance from department staff and faculty advisors, students use the Supportive Environments for Effectiveness (SEE) framework to develop strategies that support the City’s sustainability and climate action goals. Under this collaboration, student projects have addressed a variety of topics ranging from the implementation of solar programs to proposals for building climate resilience networks.

Summer 2026 Fellows

Bridget Damon, University of Michigan SEAS student and reDirect fellow.

Bridget Yvette Damon

Bridget Damon is a recent dual Master’s graduate of the University of Michigan, where she earned a Master of Science in Environment and Sustainability and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning. Through her academic and professional work, Bridget has focused on advancing sustainability through strategic planning, environmental education, and community engagement. For instance, as an intern for the City of Ann Arbor’s Office of Sustainability and Innovations Circularity team, she supported the City’s monthly swap days and reuse and repair initiatives through outreach and communication materials, and has assisted in developing a public-facing community swap how-to guide.

As a returning reDirect fellow, Bridget continues her work with the SEE Framework to engage Ann Arbor residents in sustainable textile practices through reflective and interactive educational workshops.

Lauren Gietzen

Lauren Gietzen is a graduate student at the University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability, specializing in Behavior, Education, and Communication. She has a background in marketing and communications, with experience in brand strategy, content development, and customer discovery across mission-driven organizations. Lauren grew up in Northern Michigan and brings a strong sense of place to her work in environmental communication and community engagement. She is particularly interested in how strategic communication can bridge the gap between sustainability programs and the broader public helping to reach people where they already are.

As a reDirect fellow, Lauren is applying the SEE framework to help OSI reach residents who aren't yet engaged with A2Zero. Her project combines community listening and audience research with the development of a story-based engagement system that builds shared identity before asking for commitment.
